Sallie Elizabeth Mills Morris, 94, entered into eternal life Thursday, July 12, 2001, from her residence in Vanceboro. Her home going will be commemorated Sunday at 3 p.m. at Holly Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1080 Piney NeckRoad, Vanceboro, N.C., with the Revs. Jonathan Griffin and Laverne Loftin officiating. Committal and interment rites will follow at the church cemetery. Mrs. Morris, one of 11 siblings born to Rufus and Hattie Mills, was a native of Craven County, and spent her life in the Vanceboro community. She graduated from Farm Life School, Vanceboro, in 1926; received her teaching certification from Atlantic Christian College; and taught in Pitt and Craven County Schools. An active member of Holly Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church, she served in many positions over the years, including youth director, Sunday School teacher, church treasurer, church pianist, and deaconess and was active and held offices in the woman's auxiliary of the church. Her zest for life and her love of the Lord were manifested in her church work and in the life that she lived before her family and in her community. Her creativity was evidenced in the many Christmas programs and other plays that she wrote and directed at the church. She was known for her love of family and friends; her seamstress talents; and the beautiful roses and other flowers that she grew in her yard, but most of all she was known as a devout Christian who lived Christ. Surviving are two daughters, Joyce M. Shaw and husband Larry, of Greenville, and Janice M. Morris and husband Jimmie, of Vanceboro; a son, the Rev. Hubert A. Morris Jr. and wife Glenda, of Monroe, La.; grandchildren, Sharon Bland and husband Shade, Perry Morris and wife Gwendolyn, and Terry Morris and wife Allison, all of Vanceboro, Glenn Shaw and wife Laurel, of Tulsa, Okla., David Shaw and wife Tammy, Rebecca Alverson and husband Jason, and LaDonna Umberger and husband Chris, all of Greenville, Angela Donadio and husband Dale, of Fredricksburg, Va., Deanna Ragsdale and husband Kevin, of Moore, Okla., and Sabrina Gurney and husband Kirk, of Carleton, Mich.; great-grandchildren, Clement, Justin, Katherine and Natalie Morris, all of Vanceboro, Stephen, Matthew, Andrew and Laurin Shaw and Alexandria Alverson, all of Greenville, Mariah and Christian Shaw of Tulsa, Okla., Brianna, Adam, and Savanna Ragsdale of Moore, Okla., Xan Gurney of Carleton, Mich., Gabrielle and Christian Donadio of Fredricksburg, Va.; and one sister, Blanch Loftin, of Ayden, N.C. She leaves behind four faithful caretakers, Mrs. Judy Morris, Mrs. Hazel Ipock, Mrs. Evelyn Wayne and Mrs. Mary Stevenson, and many extended family members and friends whom she held dear. Special loving care was shown by her devoted granddaughter, Sharon Bland. The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Vanceboro tonight from 7 to 9 p.m.; and at other times at the home of Jimmie and Janice Morris, 207 Vance St., Vanceboro, N. C.
