Ruth Ethelda McKay Stewart, age 94, beloved wife of the late James Harold Stewart, died on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Morningside of Sumter Assisted Living.She was born in Columbus, Ga., a daughter of the late Lawrence Alexander McKay and Pinkie Cole McKay. She was the former office manager for Robert A. Brown, Jr. in Greenville, S.C. and was a member of the National Secretary Association. She enjoyed being a Cub Scout Den Mother, loved the Atlanta Braves and was active in the Greenville Symphony Association Activities. She earned her private pilot license at the age of 62, was a member of the Beech Aero Club and was a volunteer for the "Meals on Wheels" program. She was an active member and worked in the Nursery at the Pendleton Street Baptist Church.Surviving are: One son, James Vaughan Stewart and his wife Betsy of Sumter; two grandchildren, James Gregory Stewart and his wife Dawn of Hampton, Va., and Jason Ryan Stewart of Hampton, Va.; one great-grandchild, Peyton. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Elry Devasor McKay, Raymond Elwood McKay and Horace Nathaniel McKay; and one sister, Katie Virginia McKay.A Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1901 Wade Hampton Blvd, Greenville, SC.The family will receive friends on Monday, March 1, 2010 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Bullock Funeral Home in Sumter, S.C. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pendleton Street Baptist Church, 1100 South Main Street, Greenville, SC 29601 and/or to the Salvation Army, P.O.
