->Ruth E. MorrisonMillerton- Ruth E. Morrison, 92, a lifelong resident of Millerton, NY, died on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Sharon Health Center in Sharon, CT. Born January 16, 1919 in Coleman Station, Millerton, she was the daughter of the late Martin V. and Serena (Husted) Conklin. Mrs. Morrison was a graduate of Millerton High School and the Oneonta Normal School in Oneonta, NY which later became the State University of New York at Oneonta. During World War II, she served in the Ground Observer Corps, a volunteer group of 200 dedicated men and women in Millerton and North East who manned the observation posts around the clock from 1940 to 1944. Among the volunteers were many husband and wife teams and it was reported that Millerton volunteers never made a wrong call. On June 10, 1951 at St. Patrick's Church in Millerton, she married William Morrison, Sr. who survives at home. Mrs. Morrison died just two weeks short of their 60th wedding anniversary. For 20 years, Mrs. Morrison worked as a teacher at Millerton area schools and the Immaculate Conception School in Amenia, NY. She was a parishioner of St. Patrick's Church in Millerton and a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Betty Morrison of Millerton, NY and three sons, Billy Morrison and his wife, Candy, of Millerton, NY, Tom Morrison and his wife, Barbara, of Millerton, NY and Bob Morrison and his wife, Alicia, of Livermore, CA; a sister, Jane Wells of Millerton, NY, five grandchildren, Moriah Morrison of Millerton, Jessica Morrison-LaBarre of Albany, NY, Melissa Morrison of Bridgeport, CT and Kaylea and Naomi Morrison of Livermore, CA. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, Marty, Roy and Harold Conklin and a sister, Mae Conklin. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at St. Patrick's Church, Millerton, NY with Rev. Kent Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Irondale Cemetery in Millerton, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Millerton Fire Company, P.O. Box 733, Millerton, NY 12546 or the North East-Millerton Library, P.O.
