PIERCE, RUTH ANN GORMAN, 87, of Louisville, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Meredith Pierce, Sr.; her parents John William Gorman, Sr. and Blanche Hinton Gorman; and grandson, Adam Kapp. Survivors include her eight loving children, Bill, Jr. (Darlene), Julie Effinger (David), Carmel Rhodes (Mike), Ruthie Hornung (John), Steve, Teresa Kapp (Greg), Andrew (Laura) and Amy Thomas (Nick); 17 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren; and brothers, Bill Gorman (Celeste) and Pat Gorman (Barbara). She is a graduate of Holy Name School, Holy Rosary Academy, and Nazareth College in Bardstown, KY, where she was valedictorian of her class. Ruth Ann enriched the lives of many through her passion for music and stewardship of her talents. She served as organist and choir director at St. Francis of Assisi church and was a very devoted piano and organ teacher well into her 70's. Through her brilliance and talents, an appreciation and love of music lives on with her family, friends and former students. She generously volunteered her time at St. Francis of Assisi in religious education, church community productions and youth group social events. At The Mattingly Center she provided a wealth of fun and joy with music as the universal language. Ruth Ann was an avid U of L Cardinals sports fan and stayed up many late nights to cheer for her team. She had a green thumb for gardening and was also a bird aficionado. Above all, she was an outstanding daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. The family thanks the wonderful staff at Autumn Woods Health Campus as well as her many friends there who loved and cared for her and her husband, Bill. They also extend their thanks to Hospice nurses Kim and Julie for their kind and respectful care of Ruth Ann and tremendous support for her family. A celebration of Ruth Ann's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 10, 2013 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1960 Bardstown Rd. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Ratterman's Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road, with burial at St. Michael's Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to The Mattingly Center or a Hospice organization of your choice.
