JACKSON Robert Lawrence Jackson, Sr., 96, affectionately known to family and friends as Papa, passed away on May 3, 2011, after a brief illness. He was born in Jacksonville, FL to the late George W. and Minnie Bythewood Jackson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanna C. Jackson and a son, Ronald D. Jackson, Sr. Mr. Jackson graduated from Old Stanton High School, attended Edward Waters College, and graduated from Walkers Business College. He served in WWII as an aviation mechanic and later retired from Jacksonville Naval Air Re-Work Facility in the same capacity. He was a faithful member of New Hope A.M.E. Church, attending since the age of 4. Over the years, he served on the Usher Board, Trustee Board, Church Treasurer, and Class Leader until his death. He is survived by his sons: Robert, Jr. (Marilyn), James (Debra), Clarence CB (Mae Deen); daughters, Joan (JP) Parker, Lana Suggs, Rita McGruder, Wynester Sherrer, Shameka Jones, and Deborah Brill; sister, Narcissus Jackson; sister-in-law, Emma Gresham; daughter-in-law, Ivy Jackson; 30 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Viewing will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011, from 6-8 pm, at New Hope A.M.E. Church, 2708 North Davis Street. Funeral service will be Monday, May 9, 2011, 11AM in Greater New Hope A.M.E. Church Rev. Mary Davis, Pastor. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Educational Fund of New Hope A.M.E. Arrangements are in the trusted hands of REGINALD R.
