STEUBEN - Rita Mae (Faulkingham) Wallace, 57, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at her home, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 20, 1950, in Steuben, the daughter of Ruth (Adriance) Faulkingham of Steuben and the late Charles L. Faulkingham. She owned and operated the Flower Shop, Steuben, for 25 years. She was known for the beautiful flowers she raised. She was also co-owner of the Milbridge Gulf, where her employees became part of her extended family, whom also thought of her as Mumma. In her earlier years, Rita was in a family band and was the lead singer, and was known throughout Connecticut for her singing talent. In recent years, she enjoyed singing with family and friends, and also at Karaoke. Rita loved spending quality time with her grandsons, family and friends. She shared 37 years of marriage with Samuel L. Wallace of Steuben. In addition to her husband and mother, family members include her children, Charles Wallace and wife, Brittany, Amy Houck and husband, Billy, Tricia Trundy and husband, Tee, and Joanie Wallace and fianc?, Nicholas Couture, all of Steuben; three grandchildren, Billy Houck III, Brandon Houck and a baby granddaughter due in March. She was also survived by a brother, Forest Faulkingham and fianc?e, Kelly Hughes, of East Machias. Other family members include a mother-in-law, Mary Wallace of Milbridge; two very special friends, Joanie Stanwood of Steuben and Bettye J. Colby of Milbridge; a special cousin, Linda Leighton of Spring River Lake; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her father, she was predeceased by a father-in-law, Albert Wallace. A memorial service will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Route 1, Steuben. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
