PETERS Pearl Elizabeth Gay “ Peg” Peters passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at the age of 86. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Henry Harmon Peters, Jr., a partner in Haynes, Peters, Bond Insurance Co. Born on December 26, 1917, Peg grew up in Hawthorne, Florida. She graduated from Florida State College for Women with a degree in education. She married Henry Peters of Jacksonville on October 25, 1941 and they moved to Jacksonville after World War II. Peg taught school for many years at John Gorrie Junior High and Thomas Jefferson Elementary. She was a member of Riverside Presbyterian Church (Deacon), Symphony Guild, St. Vincent's Auxiliary, Salvation Army Auxiliary, Garden Club of Jacksonville, Ortega Forest Garden Club, Phi Mu Fraternity (an active alumna for more than 65 years), Cummer Gallery of Art, Jacksonville Historical Society, and Timuquana Country Club. She was predeceased not only by her husband, but also her parents, Ella and Earl Gay of Hawt horne, and her brother, Glenn Earl Gay of Waldo. She is survived by her two daughters: Carol G. Peters and Susan P. Marshall of Jacksonville; her granddaughter, Lisa Robinson Alessandro (Chuck) of Jacksonville; her sister-in-law, Margaret Peters McDaniel of Jacksonville; and five nephews: Glenn M. Gay (Debbie) of Waldo, Al Hastings (Jane) of Ormond Beach, Mike Hastings (Pam) of Live Oak, Kevin Hastings (Susan) of Jacksonville, and Glenn Hastings (Pat) of New Port Richey. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at Riverside Presbyterian Church, 849 Park Street, on Monday, March 15 at 11:00 a.m. The family requests that instead of flowers, a donation be made in her name to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, 32257, or to your favorite charity.
