<!-- DisplayFullObituaryText -->Clay, Paul Eugene III,died suddenly the morning of February 19. He was the husband of Nancy Gast Clay and the ever-proud father of four daughters. Born in Shreveport, LA, in 1956 he was the first son of Elizabeth and Paul Clay Jr. Shortly after Paul graduated from C.E. Byrd High School in Shreveport, the senior Clays moved several times, and in 1975 relocated from California to Louisville. From that time on, Paul was a dedicated Louisvillian, especially becoming an ardent fan of the University of Louisville sports, and even putting UofL ahead of his own school, the University of Arizona. Earth sciences may have been his discipline of choice at Arizona but his vocation was electronics. With his brother, Mitchell Clay, and his father he founded Tropus Inc., a data conversion company that was a strong presence in the Louisville community in the 1980s and '90s. After the company closed in 1998, Paul continued working in the computer field. The entrepreneur side of him won out again, however, and in 2013, he formed Tropus IT, taking Kevin Quire as his partner. At his death, the company was still in its infancy with strong hopes for a productive future. Computers occupied Paul's spare time as well as his business hours. He was an accomplished gamer, spending many evenings in competition with his good friend David Bauer. Paul and Nancy lived almost all their married life in St. Matthews, where they brought up their daughters, Elizabeth Clay, Michelle Clay, Amy Clay and Stephanie Clay. His daughters continued to be a source of pride for him: Elizabeth recently earned her master's degree in history from UofL; Michelle earned her B.A. three years ago, and the two younger daughters, Amy and Stephanie are completing their degrees at the same university. Paul's survivors include his wife, his parents, and his daughters. Also surviving are Paul's sister, Charlotte Huggins, her husband, Tom, and their children Angelica and Patrick, all of Los Angeles; his brother and sister-in-law, Mitchell and Julia Clay, and their daughters Jenny and Mary Clay; Paul's cousins, Clay Flournoy (Kathy) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Craig Flournoy (Nina) and Charles Flournoy of Dallas, Texas; Kate Nicholson (John) of Birmingham, Alabama; Dr. Beth Ward and Dr. Leslie FitzGerald of Shreveport, Louisiana; Dr. Sara Ward of Lake Charles, Louisiana; Fletcher Ward (April) of Olympia, Washington, and a number of other cousins. Funeral services, under the direction of Pearson's Funeral Home, will be held Sunday, February 22, 2015. Visitation is 2:30 - 4, p.m. with services following.
