WILLIAMS, PAUL DEAN August 18, 1945 toApril 11, 2013 Gainesville - Paul D. Williams was born in Richmond, Indiana on August 18, 1945, the son of Carl and Martha Williams, and the brother of Malcolm Williams and Sue Chaplain. He attended Purdue University in engineering before joining the Air Force for a four year tour of duty as an electronics warfare specialist in Alaska, Maine, and England. During his service, Paul was decorated with the United States Air Force Commendation Medal. After leaving the Air Force, he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Speech Pathology from the University of Maine and a Master's of Science Degree in Speech and Hearing Science from the University of Michigan. Paul was a Renaissance man in his career path of management positions in the aerospace industry, computer electronics, education and health care. In 1989, Paul, his loving wife, Judith, and their seven year old son, David made Gainesville their home. Since then, he has taken great pleasure in creating effective teams of healthcare professionals to provide the highest quality therapy services in nursing homes in North-Central Florida. Paul had great affection and esteem for his colleagues and considered them as extended family. In the summer of 2010, Paul and Judith celebrated their anniversary and renewed their wedding vows on the beautiful Greek Island of Spetses. Paul was happiest when sailing, horse-back riding, theatre going, traveling, fishing, or dancing with Judith. As the proudest of fathers, Paul watched David graduate with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theatre from the University of Florida. David is currently attending Florida Coastal School of Law, and eagerly anticipates his graduation in December of 2013. Thrilled at last to add a much loved daughter to the family, Paul served as the Best Man in David's wedding to Jennifer Ware in November of 2012. Paul fought a long and courageous battle with cancer since 1996. He always faced adversity with a smile, believing as Oscar Wilde said, "Life is much too important to take so seriously." He passed away on April 11th, 2013 at Haven Hospice. As a husband, father, friend, and one who smoothed the way for so many, Paul will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Life Memorial in honor of Paul will be held on April 27th, 2013 at his home in Gainesville. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations to Catholic Charities in care of Queen of Peace Catholic Community, 10900 SW 24th Avenue, Gainesville, Florida 32607.
