Paul D. Anderson, 74 PORTLAND -- Paul D. Anderson, 74, of Gray, passed away peacefully on Sept. 12, 2007, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. His beloved wife, Norma (Bartley) and his family were at his side. Paul was born in St. Stephen, NB, Canada on Oct. 16, 1932, the son of the late John E. and A. Evelyn Anderson. Paul attended school in St. Stephen, NB after which he was employed by Ganong Brothers Candy Factory. In 1954 Paul married his sweetheart, Norma Bartley, and was employed by Martin Bartley Building Contractor for many years. Upon Mr. Bartley's retirement he became employed by Waning and Son Inc. In 1985 he joined the staff of the former Hay and Peabody Funeral Home in Scarborough for 11 years, retiring in 1996. Paul enjoyed being actively involved in Church activities and was currently a member of the Covenant Family Fellowship. He was known for his avid interest in baseball, but two of his favorite pastimes were playing golf and pool with his grandson, Jonathan. Paul is survived by his wife of 53 years, Norma; one son, Robert (Bob) and his wife Kandi of Bakersfield, Calif.; one daughter, Pauline (Polly) and her husband Ronald (Ron) Nevers of Gray; grandchildren, Jonathan and his wife Christin, Bethany, Mollie, Josiah and Aaron Nevers all of Gray, Amy and Kelly Anderson of Bakersfield; one brother, Philip and his wife Melba Anderson of St. Stephen., NB; one sister, Roberta Gay of Orono; and several nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by his parents and his brother Hazan. Paul, who has fought a valiant battle with cancer for the past one and a half years, has impacted many people with his warm personality. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. M. Dugan and his staff at the cancer center, Dr. A. Candelore and his staff of Scarborough; Home Health Visiting Nurses and Hospice of Southern Maine for their tender loving care. Relatives and friends may call at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland, on Saturday, Sept. 15 from 5-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Emmanuel Assembly of God, 1571 Washington Ave., Portland. Paul's brother, the Rev. Philip Anderson of St. Stephen, NB will be officiating. Interment will be in Black Point Cemetery. Those wishing to pay tribute in memory of Paul may visit www.mem.com.
