Michael was an avid hunter, fisherman, outdoorsmen, master bow hunter and family man. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Michael was dedicated to his job at Ingles for 20 years where he was a lead forklift mechanic. He attended Berea Baptist Church. His granddaughter was the love of his life, his "shadow", and he never missed her cheerleading games. He is preceded in death by his father, Wesley Rice; and grandparents, Henry and Retta Walker. Michael is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Jan Lovelace; daughter, Donna Shope (Keith) of Asheville; son, Michael Shannon Rice of Asheville; mother, Bernice Walker Rice of Swannanoa; granddaughter, Bridgette Shope; sisters, Joyce Jarvis (Mark) of Asheville and Vickie Holcombe (Togie) of Canton; niece, Megan; nephew, Shane; great nephews, Caleb, Ezra, and Solomon; special lifelong friends, Rick Shehan, Gary Lytle and Francis Cummings; many extended family members and friends; and his beloved Beagle, Sassy.A Celebration of Life Service will be Monday, November 11, 2013 at 5:00 pm at Berea Baptist Church with Reverends Tom Pethtel and Charles Shelton officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. Flowers are accepted and appreciated.
