Michael Powell, 81, of Hillside, N.J., entered into eternal rest on Oct. 31, 2012. Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Growney Funeral Home, 1070 N. Broad St., Hillside, N.J., www.growneyfuneral.com. Funeral will be Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at 9 a.m. at the funeral home, then to a 10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass at Christ the King Church, Hillside, N.J. Entombment is at Hollywood Cemetery, Union, NJ. Michael was superintendent for the Hillside Public Works, where he worked for 35 years, retiring in 1994. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1951 to 1953, earning the rank of sergeant first class. Mike was a member of the Springfield Hillside BPOE No. 2004, VFW Post 1862, and the American Legion. He was the beloved husband for 50 years of Maria (Botticello) Powell; loving father of Maria Miller and her husband, Robert, Michel Augello and her husband, Mark, Melisa Szumlicz and her husband, Michael, and Michael Powell and his wife, Susan; brother of Bill, Paul, Mary, Katie, Ester and Dorchie and the late Nick, Tina, John, Iggy and Annie; and devoted grandfather of Bobby, Erin, Victoria, Alexandra, Priscilla, Mark Anthony, Erika, Andrew, Dylan, Shane and Tess. In lieu of flowers, donation to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Children Division, P.O. Box 27106, New York, N.Y. 10087-7106 would be appreciated.
