Mary Theresa 'Maureen' Aylward, 81, of Westfield, N.J., passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2013, at The Chelsea at Fanwood, N.J. A celebration of Maureen's life will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the William J. Leber Funeral Home, 15 Furnace Rd., (corner of Rt. 206), Chester, N.J. (908) 879-3090. A 10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at St. Lawrence R.C. Church in Chester. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, N.J. For online condolences or information visit www.williamjleberfh.com. Maureen was born on Oct. 1, 1931, in Newark, N.J., to the late Michael and Mary Aylward. She lived in Fanwood for the past seven years and previously resided in Westfield and Cranford, N.J. Maureen earned her bachelor and master's degrees and studied at the Sorbonne in France. She worked as teacher for many years, in particular as a language teacher at J.P Stevens High School in Edison, N.J. Maureen loved teaching, all things French, traveling, museums, music and spending time with her family and friends. Maureen is survived by her sister, Catherine P. "Cis" Carroll; beloved nieces and nephews, Daniel Carroll (Mary), Patrick Carroll (Linda), Cathy Carroll Colligan (John), Michael Carroll, Mary Fanning (Edward), James Clarke (Jane), Cathy Maguire (Edward), Maureen Wooster (Scott), Sean Aylward (Megan), Christine Aylward, Cynthia Aylward, Kara Aylward (Antonis Louloudakis) and Andrew Aylward (Katy). She is also survived by 26 grand-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Patricia Clarke; her brother, John Aylward and by her aunt, Bridget Hoyne.
