EDWARDS, Mary Lillian (nee Welchman) Mary Lillian Edwards (nee Welchman) passed away peacefully on April 23, 2015. Mary was born in Kitscoty, Alberta on July 13, 1921 to Claude and Muriel Welchman. Mary had four sisters that included Joan (Tysoe), Cecily (Campbell), Rene (Taylor) and Theo (Allan) and one brother, Norman Welchman. When Mary was 13 years old, the family moved to Gordon Head Road in Victoria. Mary attended Mount Douglas High School and later worked for the Royal Bank of Canada in Victoria and Vancouver, BC. She married Eric Vernon Edwards in Victoria in 1942 at St. Luke's Anglican Church where Eric was the organist and choirmaster. Mary was a choir member. Mary leaves behind two children, Vaughn Herbert Edwards and Claudia Mavis Weiss (nee Edwards). She was predeceased by Eric in 1972. Mary lived in Fairfield from the time of her marriage until her move to Amica at Douglas House in 2012. She loved spending time with her children and five grandchildren. Her grandchildren include Geoff Edwards, the late Michelle Edwards, Mark and his spouse, Annie and great grandchild, Amber Edwards (who reside in Australia), Erica Weiss and Leah Weiss. Mary was a strong much loved matriarchal figure to her family that also included her many nieces and nephews. Mary was completely unselfish. Her greatest joy was giving of herself to others. She also made strong connections to friends and neighbours and relished neighbourly visits for tea to read stories with children, play games and to bring along sweets and puzzles for her young friends. She will be missed by all that knew her. Mary, a cradle Anglican, had a strong but gentle faith that endured throughout her life. A service for Mary will be held at McCall Bros. Funeral Home at 1400 Vancouver St., in Victoria BC on Tuesday, May 19th at 2:00 pm in the Floral Chapel. Reception to follow at McCalls. Flowers gratefully declined.
