Mary Kate Hood Walker Coley December 30, 1926 - January 24, 2005 MIDLAND, GA — Mrs. Mary Kate Hood Walker Coley, 89, of 995 Grey Rock Road, Midland, died Monday, Jan. 24 at her residence. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29 at Mt. Gilead A.M.E. Church, 8444 Fortson Road in Columbus, with the Reverend Nathaniel Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in Fortson, Ga., according to Hill-Watson Memorial Chapel in Columbus. Visitation will be today from 1 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Coley was born Dec. 30, 1926 in Harris County, Ga., the daughter of the late Lottie Mae McCaskill Hood and John Monroe Hood. A co-owner of Coley Logging Inc., she was a faithful, active member of Mt. Gilead A.M.E. Church. At her church, she was President of the Missionary Board, a member of the Senior Choir, Trustee Board and Board of Stewards. Mrs. Coley was a member of the Cataula Volunteers Fire Department, which she organized, and was also President of the Harris County Booster Club (1974). She was predeceased by a son, Henry Walker and a daughter, Sarah Coley. Survivors include her husband, Jessie Lee Coley; 12 sons, J.W. (Annette) Walker and Roy (Stephanie) Coley, both of Columbus, Donald (Bell) Walker of Hamilton, Ga., Willie (Annice) Walker and Wayne (Vickie) Coley, both of Cataula, Ga., Jerry, Alvin, Jessie, Larry, Frank and Willie Coley, all of Macon, Ga., and Johnnie (Gemond) Ballenger of Midland; four daughters, Helen Farley and Patricia (Roosevelt) Neal, both of Columbus, Betty Jenkins and Laura Cole, both of Macon; a brother, Carlton Alfonso of Detroit, Mich.; two sisters, Ernestine (Jeff) Johnson of Ashley, Md., and Mary (John) Tate of Detroit; a special devoted niece, Frankie of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 58 grandchildren, six sisters-in-law, six brothers-in-law, a special devoted friend, Alice Bondon, other nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by special caregivers, Linda Nathan, Emma Core and Esther Toliver - R.N., and several other relatives and friends.
