Mary Copeland Carpenter CHAPIN- Mary Copeland Carpenter, 95, passed away Monday, October 13, 2014 in Palmetto Health Baptist Parkridge. Born November 30, 1918, in Ehrhardt, SC, she was the daughter of the late Harry Earl and Martha Angela Rice Copeland. After attending the University of South Carolina she was employed at Camp Jackson, SC (Fort Jackson) for a number of years and was office manager at Hampton/Dodge/Pontiac in Columbia for 35 years until retirement. After retirement until she was age 80, she continued working with her son's business, Carpenter's Auto Parts, Inc. Mary is survived by her son, Edmund H. Carpenter, Jr. and his wife Vivian Best, daughter-in-law, Sarah Cox Carpenter, grandchildren, Tami (David) Blackwelder, Edmund III, John F. Carpenter and Brian (Tarah) Carpenter, great grandchildren, Keith and Stephanie Smith, Christopher, Brandon, Taigan, Austin, Ethan and Olevia Carpenter, great-great-grandchildren, Mya Donaldson and Cory Sibert. She was predeceased by her husband, Edmund H. Carpenter, sister, Louise Cagle, son, John E. and grandson, Troy Carpenter. A private memorial service is planned for a later date. The family request that memorials be made to the Jamil Center Transportation Fund for Burned and Crippled Children or to the charity of one's choice.
