ObituaryMarion Francis Gray passed away in Fort Myers, FL on September 18, 2007. She was a long time resident of Rome, NY before retiring to Fort Myers with Russell A. Gray, her loving husband of 55 years. She and her husband raised four children. Wayne and Craig Manchester of Bremerton, WA, Gail A. Hollis of Fort Myers, FL and Russell W. Gray of Cleveland, Ohio. Marion is survived by her husband, children and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who miss her dearly.She was born on May 3, 1920 in Oswego, NY to David McLaughlin and Anna Lyke. She was the oldest of three daughters. She was preceded in death by sisters Margaret Boswell and Doris Coleman of Rome, NY. She was a 1939 graduate of Rome Free Academy. She served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict were she was a Sergeant in the Wing Inspectors office at Mitchell Air Force Base in Hempstead, NY. While there she met and married Russell, formerly of New London, CT, on September 28, 1952. They moved to Rome, NY to raise their family.In addition to raising her family, Marion had a fruitful career as a long time Teacher's Assistant in the Rome Public and Catholic School Systems before retiring. She had also been a key-punch operator at Griffis Air Force Base shortly after leaving the service. Marion enjoyed education and achieved Phi Beta Kappa status while attending Mohawk Valley Community College.Marion was a member oat St. Paul's Catholic Church in Rome, NY and a member and greeter at St. Francis Xaiver Church in Fort Myers, FL up until her passing. also a member of the American Legion, Rome, NY. A service will be held at St. Francis Xavier Church, Saturday, September 23, 2007, 10 AM till 11 AM. Mass to follow at 11 AM. Burial will be at Bushnell National Cemetery, Monday, September 24, 2007 at 2 PM.
