HAYES, MARGARET SYCAWAY - Margaret V. Hyland Hayes, 96, died peacefully Saturday night, August 20, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy with her children at her side. Born in Stillwater on August 31, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Catherine Whalen Hyland. Margaret was raised and educated in Stillwater and resided in Schaghticoke before moving to Troy 65 years ago. She was employed as a seamstress at Cluett Peabody & Co. in Troy for over 50 years before retiring. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church in Troy. She enjoyed embroidery, crossword puzzles, was an avid reader and loved dogs. She was the wife of the late Michael F. Hayes, Sr., Loving mother of Michael F. (Joan) Hayes, Jr. of Poestenkill and Mary A. (late Peter) Hickey of Troy, Adored grandmother of Mary Hoffmeister, Kate Morrow, Beth Mooney, Theresa Hickey, Meg Honsinger, Patsy Collins, Peter Hickey, Michael F. Hayes, III, Matthew J. Hayes and Karin Callahan, Sister of Kay Shiland of Hoosick Falls and the late Mary Labanowski, Alice Ellis, Anna Ryan, Patricia Albowitz, John and Thomas Hyland. She is also survived by 25 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 12 noon at Our Lady of Victory Church, 55 North Lake Avenue, Troy. Interment St. Peter's Cemetery, Stillwater. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Wednesday at Our Lady of Victory Church prior to the mass from 10 am-12 noon. In lieu of flowers, the family strongly suggests contributions be made to the Lansingburgh Boys & Girls Club, 505 4th Avenue, North Troy, NY 12182 or to the Activities Fund at Van Rensselaer Manor, 85 Bloomingrove Drive, Troy, NY 12180.
