Margaret S. Hayes October 29, 2011 Margaret S. Hayes, 93, of Baldwinsville, died on October 29, 2011, at the home of her daughter in Constantia, with family and community support. "Pat" Hayes was a 1935 graduate of Greene, NY, HS and was an LPN in NYS. She was a quilter, cook and gardener. She was active in Girl Scouting. She graduated from Edith Macy's Girl Scout Training Center for leadership. At one time, she had 13 different jobs at the First Presbyterian Church in Baldwinsville. She was a member of the Female Charitable Association. At the start of her nursing career, she went home with newborn babies and their mothers. Through the years, she provided home care to homebound medically or physically compromised people in the Baldwinsville area. She worked at Sun View Nursing Home in Baldwinsville and Van Duyn Skilled Nursing Facility. She resided in her Baldwinsville home for over 60 years, which was just one mile from the "four corners" in Baldwinsville. She bought an acre and a half from Oscar Brown Esq., which was the start of his Brown Tract. Her husband, Paul G. Hayes, who died September 21, 1999, worked for, and retired from, NYS Transportation Department as a civil engineer. He was in the Army in WWII when she purchased the property. Margaret was the oldest girl of 11 children of Margaret C. and Geoffrey Shipton of Smithville Flats, NY. Surviving are her daughter, Joan Marie Doran (Michael) of Constantia; son, John P. Hayes (Kathy Case) of Oswego; and son, Jeffery L. Hayes of Forest City, NC. She had six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Survived by her siblings, Helen Rifanburg of Norwich, Olive Marlin of Baldwinsville, Birdella Shipton of Lafayette and Paul Shipton of Cortland. She had paternal cousins in England and Canada. Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at Watson Funeral Home, 631 S. Main St., Central Square, NY 13036. Interment at Riverside Cemetery, Baldwinsville, NY.
