Margaret Carolyn Martin Margaret Carolyn Cannon Martin, 89, a native of Cairo, Ga., and a resident of Baton Rouge, La., since 1992, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2006, at Landmark of Baton Rouge Nursing Home. The visitation was Friday, Aug. 4. Rabenhorst Funeral Home East (225-272-9950) in Baton Rouge handled arrangements.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 930 North Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70802. She graduated from Georgia State Woman's College in Valdosta, Ga., and received a Master of Science degree from Florida State University. She was a public school teacher in Georgia and then served in the U.S. Navy (WAVES) during World War II. She subsequently held positions as administrative assistant to the vice president of FSU and as a counselor in the FSU Office of Financial Aid, from which she retired.She is survived by two nieces, Georgene Cannon Gordon (and husband Vance) of Baton Rouge and June Dunn Willingham (and husband Lee) of Lakeland; a nephew, Raymond Hugh Dunn of Oakbrook, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Martha Martin Ourso (and husband Dr. James R. Ourso) of Baton Rouge; her close friends, Dr. Murray and Julia Hawkins of Baton Rouge, and Dr. Maudine Blair and Dr. Donna Spooner, both of Tallahassee; three great-nephews; and four great-nieces.She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Joseph Denegre Martin; her parents, Hugh Gordon Cannon and Maggie Taylor Cannon who had lived in Cairo; two brothers, Hugh Gordon Jr. of who had lived in Cairo and George William Cannon who had lived in Baton Rouge; a sister, Clarice Cannon Dunn who had lived in Deerfield Beach; and a nephew, C. Scott Cannon who had lived in Baton Rouge.
