Avis de décès de Louise-D. Jordan


Louise D. Jordan, a former longtime resident of Port Chester, and a resident of Denville, NJ, died May 23, 2003. She was born in Waterloo, NY to Augustus J. and Mary Krause Durkin. Mrs. Jordan married Walter E. Jordan at St. Mary's Church in Waterloo, NY. Mr. Jordan died in 1991. She graduated from Waterloo High, earned a BS degree from New York State University in Albany and an MA in Guidance and Personnel from New York University. She also attended Syracuse University. She taught in the Stratford Central School in Stratford, NY and the Millbrook Memorial and Millbrook School for Boys in Millbrook, NY. She came to Port Chester in 1946 as Dean of Girls, was named Head Counselor and later, Director of Pupil Services. She retired in 1983. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Church in Port Chester, NY and later, St. Catherine of Siena Church in Mountain Lakes, NJ. Mrs. Jordan was a member of the National Association of Pupil Personnel Administrators, New York Retired Teachers Association, Delta Pi Epsilon, Delta Kappa Gamma, port Chester Council of Community Services, 50-year member of the Port Chester Women's Club, Port Chester Historical Society, where she served as a Trustee, and the American Red Cross, Seton Circle of the Our Lady of Mercy Church, Our Lady of Mercy Senior Club, St. Elizabeth's Guild of Westchester and Ladies of Charity, Rye Council, where she served as Treasurer. She was on the Board of Directors at United Hospital School of Nursing. She was Chairman of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Women's Scholarship Committees. During World War II, she worked summers at Samson Naval Base on Seneca Lake in Geneva, NY to relieve a shortage of workers. She was a member of the Ladies' Division of the War Bond Drive in Dutchess County. Mrs. Jordan was recognized as "Key Citizen" in 1961 by the Port Chester Key Club. In 1991, she received the first "Women's Achievement Award" from the Town of Rye. A plaque honoring her was placed in the Guidance Department at Port Chester High School. She wrote a handbook: "Guidance for Higher Education". She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jordan Marino of Port Chester, NY and four grandchildren: Dr. Mark T. Marino and his wife Meg of Long Valley, NJ; Suzanne M. Lieban and her husband David, Anne M. Marino and Beth I. Kranda, all of California and ten great-grandchildren: Matthew, Colin, Kristin, Kimberly and Lindsay Marino and Elvis, Jared and Malcolm Lieban and Forrest and Jordan Kranda. She devoted her life to working with and for children, and helping the elderly. She loved flowers and was an avid gardener. She enjoyed needlepoint, embroidery and reading. Visitation will be at 5-9 PM, Thursday and Friday, May 29 and 30th, 2003 at Craft Memorial Home, Inc. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Saturday, May 31, 2003 at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Westchester Ave., Port Chester, NY. Interment to follow at Saint Mary's Cemetery, Rye Brook, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pastoral Ministry of Our Lady of Mercy Church, Westchester Ave., Port Chester, NY or the Port Chester High School Scholarship Program.
