Lilian Mary Hooper, a longtime resident of Bronxville, died on Thursday, October 9, 2003 in Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. She was 82 years old. Mrs. Hooper was born April 1, 1921 in Birmingham, England to William and Nellie Merritt-Walker. Mrs. Hooper served in the British Royal Air Force from 1940 to 1946, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. She belonged to The Daughters of the British Empire. On June 5, 1948, she married Stanley Hooper at St. Paul's Church in Birmingham, England. Mrs. Hooper worked for many years in the medical profession in Bronxville. Mrs. Hooper lived in Bronxville for a total of 24 years, from 1969 to 1987 and returning from ten years in Jupiter, Florida in 1997. She is survived by her husband, Stanley Hooper; a daughter: Lesley Iuso of Weston, CT; two sons: Malcolm Hooper of Bronxville and Colin Hooper of Scarsdale; four grandchildren: Richard, Heather, Matthew and Amy, and a sister, Nellie Jones of Birmingham, England. She was predeceased by a brother, William H. Walker of Woodstock, Canada. A Memorial Service will be held 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, October 16, 2003.
