->AUGUSTA -- Kathleen "Kathy" Anne Collins, 58, passed away unexpectedly at home with her brother, Tom, by her side on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009.She was born in Augusta on Feb. 18, 1951, the daughter of the late Joseph D. and Gertrude L. Collins.Kathy graduated from Hall-Dale High School. She had been employed by the State of Maine in the Department of Human Services for many years.Kathy was a caring and devoted sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She touched the lives of many through her kind, thoughtful ways. Her greatest love was her family.She is survived by two brothers and one sister, Thomas Collins of Augusta, Peggy Whitman and her husband, Carroll, of Manchester and Joseph Collins and his wife, Keltie, of Farmingdale, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.The most special to her were her nieces and nephews: Michael Whitman and his wife, Kathy, and their children Michael and Madeline, of Marlborough, Mass., Andy Whitman and his wife, Jessy, of Litchfield, Amy Whitman of Augusta, Beth Whitman of Amesbury, Mass., Heather Barlow and her husband, Josh, and their children Emma and Evan of Winslow, Holly Collins Gannett and her husband, Derek, and their daughter, Isabelle, of Manchester.Kathy's family would like to extend a special thanks to all the doctors, nurses and staff at the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care who treated her with such kindness.At Kathy's request, there will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will occur at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hallowell Cemetery. A reception will follow the service at the home of Carroll and Peggy Whitman.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Harold Alfond Cancer Center, c/o MaineGeneral Health Office of Philanthropy, P.O.
