June T. Lawson January 25, 1934- November 24, 2008 COLUMBUS, GA— June T. Lawson, 74, of Columbus, GA, died Monday, November 24, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital. A celebration of her life service will be held on Monday, December 1, 2008 from 6-8 PM at the Quality Inn Banquet Room, 1325 Veterans Parkway, Columbus, GA where she had owned and operated Ramada Barber Shop for over 40 years. She was the barber for some of Columbus, Georgia's most outstanding citizens whom she considered her dearest lifelong friends. The Ramada Barber Shop was the place to get a haircut, to stay in the local news, or to drop off a resume and to help new businesses to get established in the community. In addition, she worked with community leaders and business leaders from Japan. Mrs. Lawson was born January 25, 1934 in Kumamoto, Japan; daughter of the late Toro and Masue Gotou. She was the first female barber at Ft. Benning before opening her own barber shop in Columbus. She was the widow of the late James Robert Lawson. Survivors include her sons, Jimmy R. Lawson and David M. Lawson of Marietta, GA; grandson, Shawn D. Lawson of Waldorf, MD; granddaughter, Brandy L. Welch of Midland, GA; two sisters, Yoshiko Yamamuro and Takko Mizuarai of Japan; brother-in-law, Masaharu Mizuarai of Japan; niece, Chieko Mizuarai of Japan; former daughter-in-law, Julia Lynn Weaver of Phenix City, AL; and six great grandchildren, Halle, James, Jacob and Lorelei Lawson, all of Kennesaw, GA, Araya Lawson of Middletown, OH and Preston Welch of Midland, GA.
