ALEXANDER, Jr., R. JackR. Jack Alexander, Jr., a resident of Palm Beach, Florida since 1996 died on February 28, 2014 at age 85. A seventh generation Georgian, he is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Beulah Harris Lambert. Also surviving are two sons, R. Jack Alexander III, David Lee Alexander and four grandchildren, R. Jack IV, Thomas, Nicholas and Grace. Jack was a graduate of North Fulton High School in Atlanta. He was an alumnus of Georgia Tech and Sewanee - The University of the South and a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Following Jack's service in the Air Force as a fighter pilot, the couple returned to Atlanta in 1953 where Jack joined the family-owned firm of Alexander-Seewald Co., which was established in 1890 by his grandfather, W.D. Alexander. The Company was the first car dealer and automotive parts distributor in the South East. The Company was recognized for several years as one of metro Atlanta's largest 100 privately-owned companies by the Atlanta Business Chronicle. In 1967, Jack became President of the Company upon the retirement of his father, who had served as CEO since 1928. During Jack's tenure as President, he also served on boards of several other corporations and trade associations, including the Automotive Warehouse Distributors Association (AWDA). He was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE International), and in 1984 was named AWDA Automotive Man of the Year. In 1986, he was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame, Inc. He was an early proponent of the development of alternative motor fuels and represented the automotive industry before Congress to ensure its adoption as a national energy policy. He was a member of The Cherokee Town & Country Club in Atlanta. In Palm Beach, he was a member of the Sailfish Club and The Society of the Four Arts.
