He was a retired carpentry teacher from Asheville High School and served in the US Army. He was a member of Vision Missionary Baptist Church, Mars Hill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Tom Henderson and Flora Owenby Henderson; and sister, Ruby Nell Lewis.Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Shirley Griffin Henderson; daughter, Joy H. Odom and husband Rev. Dr. Richard Odom of Stokesdale; son, Michael D. Henderson and wife Debbie Garrison Henderson of Marshall; sister, Ruth Bryan of Broadway; brother, Jack Henderson of Alexander; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2013, at Oakley Baptist Church, 70 Fairview Rd., Asheville, NC 28803, with Rev. Dr. Richard Odom and Rev. Dr. Don R. McIntyre officiating.
