TUSCALOOSA John Norton Todd, III, died at home on February 25, 2008, following a lengthy illness. Dr. Todd, a board certified Internal Medicine specialist, was born in Montgomery, Ala., and practiced in Tuscaloosa, Ala., from 1963 to 1987. He was a man of great faith not only in our Heavenly Father, but faith in life, his family, country and his Southern upbringing. One of his favorite Bible passages is from the book of Habakkuk 2: 1-3; "I will stand at my post. I will take up my position on the watch-tower. I will watch to learn what He will say through me - and what I shall reply when I am challenged. Then the Lord made answer: 'Write down the vision - inscribe it on tablets, made for a herald to carry, with speed. For there is still a vision for the appointed time. At the destined hour, it will come in breathless haste. IT WILL NOT FAIL. If it delays -- wait for it… for when it comes will be no time to linger." He was preceded in death by his mother, Alton Key Thomas Todd, and his father, John Norton Todd Jr., of Montgomery, Ala. He is survived by his wife of more than 49 years, Phyllis Jackson Todd of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; his children, Mary Alton Todd Griffin and her husband David, John Norton Todd, IV and his wife Libby, Amy Louise Perkins and her husband Joe, and Thomas David Todd and his wife Helen; his brother, Alton Bernard Todd and his wife Betty Jane Todd of Roswell, Ga.; and four grandchildren, Tandy Barrett Nicholson, Jr. and his wife Julia, Leslie Anne Nicholson, Joseph Winters Perkins, III, and John Daniel Perkins. A private family service was held on Wednesday, February 27, 2008, with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Memorials may be made to the general scholarship fund at Shelton State Community College or a church or charity of one's choice.
