McCALLA Captain John Calvin, age 64, of McCalla, as a new child in Christ, he went to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 20, 2009. Captain Williams was known for his work with the Vestavia Hills Police Department, after26 years of service. After his retirement, he went to work with the Jefferson County Sheriffs Department as an assistant to former Sheriff Jim Woodard. He left the Sheriffs Dept after 7 years of service. He was currently working on his second retirement with the Jefferson County Tax Assessors office under J.T. Smallwood.Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at North Highland Baptist Church at 4851 15th Street Rd., Hueytown, Ala. Burial will follow in Hickman Cemetery with Bro. Ethridge Smith and Bro. Cullen Williams officiating. Visitation will be 5:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at the church. He was preceded in death by his parents Newton and Susie Williams and a brother, Dan Williams.Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Vada Williams; daughter, Rhonda Williams Snider (Richard) of Chelsea; son, Greg Williams (Michelle) of McCalla; and four grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Williams, and Miranda and Johnathan Snider; sisters, Mary Wood, Marie McKinney, and Linda Roberts; and brothers, Sterling Williams, Cullen Williams, Mav Williams, Larry Williams, and Joe Williams.Special thanks to UAB Birmingham 9th floor doctors and nurses and also Oasis Hospice Care.
