BELGRADE -- Jean Paul Pepin, 71, of Pepin Circle and formerly of Augusta, passed away on Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Thayer Unit, Waterville, after a long illness. He was born in Notre Dames de Bois, Quebec, on March 21, 1934, the son of Odilon Pepin and Odiana (Lambert) Pepin. He was educated in Canada and married the former Claire Carrier in 1958 in Canada.Jean was semi-retired, but he was active in several businesses that he founded. They included MNJ Enterprise, Insulhold Inc. and J/R Metal Frames Manufacturing. He previously owned and operated Jean Pepin Drywall for 30 years. Prior to that, he worked in the construction field for several years.Jean was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. He was a former member of Le Club Calumet, Augusta Trailblazers Snowmobile Club, Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce and Associated General Contractors.In 1984, he received the McNaulty Award in Texas for Construction Invention of the Year. The award was presented by astronaut Neil Armstrong. He was an avid fisherman and hunter for many years.Jean was predeceased by a brother, Charles Emile Pepin.Surviving are his wife, Claire Marie (Carrier) Pepin of Belgrade; two daughters, Doris Pepin and her husband, Christian and Diane Beaulieu and her husband, Steve; a son, Robert Pepin and his companion, Jane Andersen; his grandchildren, Joe and Melanie Chouinard, Jessica and Nicole Pepin and Jason Brunelle; a brother, Leo Pepin and his wife, Lucille; a sister-in-law, Lucille Bedard; additional brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Herman Carrier and his companion, Ghislaine Champagne, Lauraine Rodrigue, Julien Carrier and his wife, Rolande, Murielle Plante and her husband, Gerard, Olivette Gauthier, Ernest Carrier and his wife, Ginette, Donald Carrier and his wife, Gaetane, Diane Breault and her husband, Lionel, Jascinthe Carrier and her husband, Donat, Benoit Carrier and his wife, Hugette, Raymond Carrier, Jean Carrier and his wife, Lyne, Francois Carrier and his wife, Sylvianna, and Mario Carrier and his wife, Jocelyne; 20 nieces, 20 nephews and several cousins.Visiting hours will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Augustine Catholic Church.
