<!-- DisplayFullObituaryText -->Feb. 8, 1916 - Aug. 10, 2014 Jane Tate Moore, lifelong resident of Mobile, born February 8, 1916 to the late Mary Todd Tate and Paul Tudor Tate, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin E. Moore, and son, Franklin E. Moore, Jr. Mrs. Moore is survived by daughters, Jane (Kerry) Kilbride of Huntsville, Eileen (Clayton) Cardwell of Nashville, Tennessee, and son, Michael (Sue) Lee Moore of Fairhope, 16 grandchildren, 22great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was a life long member of St, John's Episcopal Church, and a 1933 graduate of Murphy High School. Mrs. Moore was active in the Mobile Quota Club. In 1954, she became the 365th member of the National Association of Retarded Citizens, and only the second member in Alabama. When no programs or help could be found for her son Frankie who was born with Downs Syndrome, Mrs. Moore placed an ad in the Press Register claiming "Retarded children can be helped" and from the response from that ad, started a parents group. With a generous donation from Mobile Organization of Jewish Women (Mrs. Jean Marks) the first classes for retarded citizens were held. In June 1962, she was honored with distinguished service awards as members of Mobile Group Aid for Retarded Children, and was acknowledged by a Letter from M. O. Beale. Jane Tate Moore was chosen First Lady of Mobile by Beta Sigma Phi Business Sorority in 1977 for her work with retarded citizens. In 2005, she was honored as the founder of GARC (Group Aid for Retarded Citizens), now known as Mobile Aid for Retarded Citizens, on its 50th anniversary. She was a board member of Child Day Care Center for 20 years, and was awarded the "Service to Mankind Award" in 1980 by the Sertoma Club for "her unselfish contributions to the community and her fellowman". In 1956 she was chairman of the first United Fund Residential Drive, and in 1976, was the chairman of the Mobile County Residential division. A memorial service will be held at Saint John's Episcopal Church, 1707 Government St. Visitation to begin at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 16th with Memorial Service to follow.
