MORRIS James Arthur (Jim) Morris of Palm Valley, age 66, passed away on June 29 after a long battle with prostate cancer. True to his spirit, Jim faced this challenge with courage, dignity, and a strong love of life. Loving and considerate, he did not complain about his condition, instead providing those around him with encouragement, optimism, and hope. At the time of his passing Jim was surrounded by family and friends. Jim was a long-time resident and businessman in Palm Valley, familiar to many in the community for his zest for life and his ability to make everyone feel like an old friend. He was born on August 16, 1937 in Portsmouth, VA. Part of a career military family, Jim lived in many parts of the country growing up, graduating from high school in Ketchikan, AK. After serving 3 years in the US Army, Jim lived in Georgia, California, and finally settled in Jacksonville to raise his family. Jim lived life to the fullest, enjoying golfing, fishing, traveling, and pulling his fr iends and family together for food and festivities. He is survived by Carol, his loving wife and soul-mate of 33 years; children, Steve Morris (Bobbi), Michael Morris (Suzanne), Mark Morris, Misty Read (Rollin), Amy Holmes (Michelle), Mason Morris (Tammy), and Sean Holmes (Jacklyn),16 grandchildren, and his special friends, Mike and Angela Stine. He was preceded in death by his father James H. Morris, his mother, Olive Bruno, and his daughter Debra Morris. A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, July 3 from 3pm to 6pm at the Palm Valley Community Center on Canal Blvd., Ponte Vedra Beach. The family wishes to extend it's sincere gratitude and appreciation to the incredible nurses and staff of Northeast Florida Community Hospice.
