ObituaryHELEN MARGARITE STEVENS SMITHHelen S. Smith, beloved wife, sister and aunt passed away at the age of 90 on Monday, December 8, 2003, at the Lakeside Nursing Home.She was born in Danby on March 26, 1913, daughter of the late Norman H. and Dora E. Cummings Stevens. Helen is survived by her sister, Dorothy Dorn, 93, of Candor; her nephews, Richard "Kim" (Beatrice) Davis of Lansing, Allan S. (Barbara) Davis of Fair Oaks, CA; niece, Anne (Curtis) Freeman of Horseheads; great-nephews, Richard "Rick" Davis, Jr. of Ithaca, and Jeffrey S. Davis of Lansing; great-nieces, Cheryl D. (Dan) Wunder of Scipio Center, Becky (Lee Majewski) Davis of Eldorado Hills, CA; and great-great-nieces, Jocelyn Davis and Samantha Wunder.Helen grew up in Danby. In 1937, she married Clayton W. Smith, a Pee Wee Hockey coach and photographer. She worked as a stenographer for The Farm Credit Administration. They lived on South Hill together until Clayton passed away in August 1997. She continued to live at home until September 18, 2001 when she had a disabling stroke. She will be remembered for her mild good nature.A celebration of Helen's life will be held on Friday, December 12, 2003, at 1 p.m. at the Bangs Funeral Home with Rev. Wilfred Baez officiating. Burial in South Hill Cemetery will be delayed until the spring. Donations in Helen's memory may be made to the SPCA or The Danby Federated Church.
