NEWTON -- Helen M. St. Onge, 96, a former 25-year resident of Newton, died July 19, 2009, at Derry Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Haverhill, daughter of Arthur "Pop" and Caroline Morin. She attended St. Joseph Grammar School and a local hairdressing academy. She operated Helena's Beauty Salon at in Salisbury for many years and later worked in the shoe industry. She was a member of Mary Mother of the Church of St. Luke the Evangelist Parish, and St. Joseph Parish of Haverhill, where she and her husband were the first couple married in the new church. She was the widow of Joseph G. St. Onge. The family includes three sons, Joseph R. St. Onge of Amesbury, Mass., David A. St. Onge of Hampstead and Joseph G. St. Onge Jr. of Londonderry; a daughter, Patricia Woodbury of Newton; a brother, Albert Morin of Kingston; a sister, Loretta Steer of Newton; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchilden; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. SERVICES: Calling hours are private. A Mass of Christian burial is at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mary, Mother of the Church, Newton, followed by burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Haverhill, Mass. A reception for family and friends will be held at Holy Angels Parish Hall, Plaistow, immediately following the committal service. Arrangements are under the direction of Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow.
