Hannah Lynn Horton, age 84, of Niceville, Fla., passed away with her family by her side on Friday, April 16, 2010, at the Delta Health Care Center in Sandestin, Fla.Hannah has slipped the surly bonds of earth. Sunward she climbed to the un-trespassed sanctity of space, where neither hawks nor eagle flew, and put out her hand and touched the face of God.Hannah was born on Nov. 18, 1925, in Raleigh, N.C., to Eula and Alexander Riddle. Hannah attended St. Mary's College for Women in Raleigh. After college she owned and operated a School of Dance, where she taught tap and ballet for several years while her husband attended North Carolina State University.Hannah was a homemaker, loving mother and wife. She devoted her life to her family and volunteer work of all kinds. She never refused to help with any worthwhile project, from bathing orphaned children in Washington D.C., to greeting and comforting returning wounded Vietnam veterans at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.She was married to retired Air Force Col. Lemuel Douglas Horton for 62 years. Hannah is survived by her husband, along with her daughters, Pamela Horton Thompson and Susan Horton of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and her son, Roger Randolph Horton of Point Washington, Fla.Hannah's family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Delta Health Care Center for their compassionate and loving care of Hannah during the final years of her life. Each and every one of them has been a blessing.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Covenant Hospice in Hannah's name. Their address is 101 Hart St., Niceville, FL 32578.A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 20, at 2 p.m. at Twin Cities Funeral Home, 1405 John Sims Pkwy. East, Niceville. There will also be a reception to follow.
