Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at Altoona First Baptist Church for Grace McAfee Tilley, who passed away June 14, 2014. She was born in Lawley, AL, on February 26, 1923, and she resided in Altoona and Southside, AL. The Revs. Lauil Thompson and George Dunn will officiate. Burial will be at Altoona Walnut Grove Cemetery. Morgan Funeral Chapel directing. Mrs. Tilley was the youngest of 12 children. She was a graduate of Altoona High School. Before retiring, she worked for the Army Depot, NASA and the Social Security Administration. She was a member of the Eastern Star and First Baptist Church, Altoona. She enjoyed watching Auburn Tigers football and Atlanta Braves baseball, and also attending family reunions at her old home place in Maplesville, AL. Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Watts Tilley; son, Leon Tilley; parents, John and Martha McAfee; four sisters; and seven brothers. She is survived by daughter-in-law, Faye Thompson, and son-in-law, Lauil Thompson; granddaughters, Joy Tilley Perryman (Dean) and Joan Tilley Coker (Lamar); grandsons, Gregg Thompson (Candi) and Chris Thompson (Kathy); seven great-grandchildren; special nieces, Alice McAfee Hamby and Susan Thompson Rowan; and a host of nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be Lamar and Jacob Coker, Dean Perryman, Bruce, Bob, Lynn, Philip and Rex McAfee, Terry Mitchell, Gregg and Chris Thompson and Mack Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will Buddy Thompson, Ray Rowan and Harold Burton. The family thanks those who helped in the care of Ms. Grace. We extend a special thanks to Harold and Ila Burton; Lawley Hospice and caregivers Glenda, Tammy, Ashley, Melinda and employees; also employees at Woodland Assisted Living. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Altoona First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends before the service from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the church.
