Untitled GLENNA MAE SMITH FEBRUARY 8, 1931 - NOVEMBER 16, 2009 Glenna Mae Smith, born Feb. 8, 1931 in Green Briar, West Virginia, passed away on Monday, Nov. 16, 2009 without notice. She was born to the late Harvey and Gertrude Chambers. Glenna, also known as Mama by her two sons, John "Eric" Smith and Harvey "Ray" Smith, lived a full life. She attended Laeger High School in West Virginia then attended Tampa University in Florida. In 1954 Glenna meet the love of her life, and best friend, John Auburn Smith. They married nine months later on Dec. 17, 1954 in Cleveland, Ohio. They later moved to Charlotte, NC then to Port St. Joe, FL before settling in the Pensacola/Pace, FL area in 1958. Glenna and John owned and operated several successful service stations in Escambia and Santa Rosa Countys. Glenna was a devoted worker, doing everything from taking care of mounds of paperwork to pumping gas on a full service pump island. Glenna and John went into semi-retirement in 1986 with only one business to operate, Smith's/Cotton's Fuel Oil Service. Together they operated that business for a total of 30 years. Since full retirement Glenna did what she loved the most, read her hundreds of cookbooks and watch the QVC Shopping Channel. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Gertrude Chambers; her sister, Pansy Wright; brothers-in-law, Ronald Parson and Wade Smith; mother-in-law, Nellie Johnson; sister-in-law, Hilma Barbee; nephew, Ronnie Parson, Jr.; and Neil Wright. Glenna is survived by her husband of 54 years, John Auburn Smith; two sons, John "Eric" (B.J.) Smith and Harvey "Ray" (Kelly) Smith; one sister, Lucille Parsons; one sister-in-law, Faye Smith; six granddaughters, Erica, Summer, Brittany, Becca, Hannah, Saylin Mae; one grandson, John Aston "Bubby"; four great-granddaughters, Nalie, Aliyana, Bostyn, Aajalei; nieces and nephews, Jonathan Boland, James "Bo" Wright, Neila Halter, Jenny Wright, Greg Smith, Logan Barbee, and Tracey Hall. Family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm on Monday, Nov. 23, 2009 at Lewis Funeral Home Pace Chapel. Funeral services to be held at 11am, Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009 at Lewis Funeral Home Pace Chapel with Rev. Joey Rogers and Glyn Lowery officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery. Glenna was known by many and loved by all.
