JACKSON, Frances "Darlene," 49, of Safety Harbor, Fla., died at home Sunday, January 7, 2007. Darlene was born in Elizabeth City, N.C. September 25, 1957. She graduated from Elizabeth City State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Darlene also lived in Kodiak, Alaska, Borinquen, Puerto Rico and Safety Harbor, as her husband served in the U.S. Coast Guard. Darlene worked for the Pinellas County School System as an attendance specialist with the truancy interdiction program located at the Juvenile Assessment Center. Her work allowed her to help children and parents attain school attendance. She enabled many students to return to school and become successful students. Darlene's passions included travel, producing schools plays, helping others and supporting her children's scholastic and athletic endeavors. Survivors include her husband of 27 years, Robert; her son, Darren; daughter, Lauren; Darlene's father, Eugene F. Handy; her sisters, Carolyn Graves and Vickie Sanders and brother, Bobby Joe Holder. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, January 12, 2007, at Curlew Hills Memory Garden, 1750 Curlew Road, Palm Harbor, Fla. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2007, at the Countryside Christian Center, 1850 McMullen Booth Road, Clearwater, Fla. Darlene requested donations in lieu of flowers be offered in her name to Countryside Christian Center, 1850 McMullen Booth Road, Clearwater, FL 33759.
