MAY, Edith Smith Homegoing Celebration Services for Mrs. Edith Smith May, 97, of Atlanta, Georgia will be held Thursday, October 18, 2012, 1:00 pm at Greater Smith Chapel A.M.E. Church, 183 Mayson Avenue NE, Atlanta, with remains placed in-state at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Toni Ingram, Pastor, Officiating. Reverend Kenneth Smith, Eulogist. Interment, Washington Memorial Cemetery, Decatur. A visitation will be held at Donald Trimble Mortuary on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 from 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. Mrs. May was born January 17, 1915 in Atlanta, Georgia. Mrs. May was a lifelong member of Smith Chapel A.M.E. Church, where she served as president of the Missionary Society and Chairperson for various programs and events. She was recognized as a community activist and volunteered as a poll worker as well as movements to protect the rights of senior citizens in the Atlanta area. As a caring matriarch, she nurtured many children as an in home daycare provider. Mrs. May was honored as a DeKalb County Distinguished Senior Citizen as well as Edgewood's Outstanding Citizen to name a few. Mrs. Edith May epitomized faith, endurance and a will to win. She lived a fulfilling life of service. Edith is survived by William Alfred May, son, Shirley May, daughter-in-law; grandchildren: Dionne Davis, Dr. Thomas Glanton, Jr., Carlos May, Jr., and Edith Ruth Glanton; Great Grandchildren: Seabon, Jr.Skyler, Isaac, Thomas III, Holly, Jada, Baffour, and Daniel; many nieces, nephews and a host of Christian sojourners and friends.
