Ethel Anna Doyle Ethel Anna Doyle NEEDHAM Ethel Anna Doyle (nee Axmann) died Saturday, January 16, 2010, of natural causes, at the age of 88, in Needham, Massachusetts. A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she lived in West Roxbury, Massachusetts, for the past 10 years. As a Radioman Second Class in the U.S. Navy during World War II, she served in the Pacific Theater; stationed at Oahu, Hawaii, she was the first person on United States soil to announce the end of the war in the Pacific. A homemaker, communications clerk, and bookkeeper, she also worked at the old Gimbels Department Store at Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, until her retirement in 1975. An avid reader, accomplished artist and jazz enthusiast, she loved animals, especially dogs, and had an appreciation of art, particularly Impressionism. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester, and her parents, Hildegard and William Axmann, all of Milwaukee. She is survived by her three daughters, Jennifer Doyle of West Roxbury, Massachusetts; Penelope Lush of Palatine, Illinois; and Candace Doyle of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; three granddaughters, Tara Lush of DeKalb, Illinois; and Lily and Sabrina (NaNa) Doyle of West Roxbury, Massachusetts; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service is planned for April 19 at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, with burial in the Veterans Administration National Cemetery, at Wood, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Wisconsin Humane Society would be appreciated.
