Elsie Spakes Johnson, 97, passed away on January 10, 2015.Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at Morgan Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends for visitation for an hour prior to the service in the chapel (1 p.m. to 2 p.m.). Rev. Massey Clayton and Rev. John Cook will officiate the service. Entombment to follow at Crestwood Mausoleum. Morgan Funeral Chapel & Crematory directing.Elsie was born on April 20, 1917, to George Delles Spakes and Linnie Elliott Spakes. She was married to John Clyde Johnson for 51 years. They had no children of their own, choosing instead to pour out their love on their nieces and nephews. Elsie was a member of East Gadsden Church of the Nazarene and retired from Goodyear after 25 years of service. She spent her entire life taking care of others, and as her health declined, she often expressed regret for not being able to help anyone. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband; parents and grandparents; and sisters, Thelma Hutchison, Nellie McCollum, Atha Ford, Ruth Johns and Mary Darnell.She leaves behind a sister, Helen Bowlen of Rainbow City; devoted nephew, Harold Johns (wife, Vivian); niece, Linda Carol Smith (husband, Steven); and a host of nieces and nephews.Heartfelt thanks are extended to the caregivers and family members who offered their help and support during her illness.Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.Elsie fought the good fight and kept the faith. We are saddened to lose this precious lady; we will miss her always.
