->Edward, StewartEdward J. Stewart long time resident of Pearl River, died after a short illness, on January 23, 2013 at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center in Havre De Grace, Maryland. He was 85. Mr. Stewart worked as a Postal Carrier for the U. S. Postal service in Pearl River for 32 years before retiring in 1982. Mr. Stewart was born July 29, 1927 in Manhattan, New York to Edward John and Marie Esther Shapter-Stewart. On November 5, 1955, he married Elzabeth Mary Ann Elie at Visitation Church in Bronx, NY. Mr. Stewart lived in Pearl River for the past 65 years before that he lived in Bronx, NY from 1927 to 1947. Locally, he was active for 65 years as a parishioner of St. Margaret's Antioch Church, active in the leadership and activities of the local union for the Pearl River Post Office and a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Edward Stewart will be remembered for his generous soul, loving heart and ready laugh. Ed Stewart was loving father and father in-law to Elizabeth and Steve Lafergola, Esther and Jim Costigan, and Liz Acevedo Dennison and a cherished Brother to Esther Martin and her late husband Roger Martin. He was a loving grandfather to seven grandchildren and treasured Uncle to one Niece and two Nephews. Family members who died earlier include; his beloved wife, Elizabeth Mary Ann Stewart, who passed away in 2011. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:15 AM Monday at St. Margaret's R.C. Church, Pearl River. Burial will follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Nanuet, NY.
