<!-- FH = McDougald Funeral Home and Cremation Services -->Dorothy Skelton WilliamsAndersonSurrounded by family, Dorothy Skelton Williams passed away peacefully on June 13, 2013 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Ashley Lindstedt.Born in Anderson, SC on May 15, 1927, "Dot" was the daughter of the late James Henderson Skelton and Jane McClure Skelton. A graduate of Anderson Girls High, Dot received her undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education from Winthrop and her master's degree from the University of South Carolina.She was predeceased by her siblings James Henderson Skelton, Hortense Elizabeth Skelton, Charles Skelton, and the love of her life, her husband Chet Williams. Dot is survived by: three daughters, Annette Lynn (Steve) and Jane Powell (Ted) of Columbia, and Lynn Lindstedt (Ashley) of Anderson; six granddaughters, the "Sugarbabes", Lesley Lindstedt-Sullivan (Javis), Laura Lindstedt, Alicia Lindstedt, Calhoun Taylor, Maggie Taylor and Anna Lynn; one great-granddaughter Emily Mills, and numerous nieces and nephews.A lifelong advocate for children's education in Anderson County, Dot taught second grade at Homeland Park, taught kindergarten and was curriculum coordinator at Estes, and was the principal at West Market Elementary until her retirement. She was also an innovator in the development of Project Head Start.Dorothy was passionately committed to First Presbyterian Church of Anderson, where she has served since the age of ten when she was recruited as a Sunday school teacher. Her contributions to the foundation and life of the church grew exponentially from there. Dot also lived a lifetime of volunteering, serving in the American Legion Women's Auxillary Post 14, AnMed Hospital System, Bud in Bloom Garden Club, Care and Support for Veterans, Friday Afternoon Book Club, and Delta Kappa Gamma. Family and friends and those in need were graced by her support through meals and her special birthday and Valentine's day cards.A Memorial Service celebrating the Life of Dot will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 2:00pm at First Presbyterian Church with a reception immediately following in the fellowship hall of the church.
