Don Johnston, 81, of Sheffield, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at Morrison Funeral Home, of Tuscumbia. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home chapel, with burial at Oakwood Cemetery, of Tuscumbia. The Rev. Bill Bedsole will officiate.Mr. Johnston was a native of Etowah, Tenn., and a longtime resident of Sheffield. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of First Methodist Church of Sheffield, where he was a founding member of "The Good Ole Boys." He was very active in his church, serving in several leadership roles.Survivors include his wife, Martha Mitchell Johnston; son, Greg Johnston and wife, Susan, of Birmingham; brother, Ray Johnston and wife, Martha, of Sheffield; grandson, Andrew Johnston, of Birmingham; one niece and five nephews.Pallbearers will be Leon Alsbrooks, Steve Smith, John Phillips, Luther Hobson, Milam Smallwood and Tom Morrow.The family wishes to thank Morningside of Sheffield, Cottage of the Shoals and Southern Care Hospice.Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, of Sheffield.To view and sign Mr. Johnston's online guestbook, visit morrisonfuneralhomes.com.
