David Wayne Stuart David Wayne Stuart, 72, who retired as professor emeritus of meteorology in 2000, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Diane Lynn Sivertson Stuart. The service will be at 11 a.m. EST Monday at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, with burial at 2 p.m. EST at Culley's MeadowWood Memorial Park.Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. EST Sunday at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Timberlane Road Chapel (850-893-4177) and in the church hall following the service. A rosary will be said following the visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 4665 Thomasville, Road, Tallahassee, FL 32309.Born in Indiana, David lived his early years in Windsor, Canada, and Grosse Pointe Park, Mich. He attended the University of Michigan before transferring to UCLA, where he received a bachelor's, a master's and a Ph.D. in meteorology. In 1962, David came to Florida State University as an assistant professor of meteorology.He conducted research in synoptic meteorology, numerical weather prediction and air-sea interactions. A current member of Sigma Xi, American Geophysical Union and the American Meteorological Society, David conducted major field experiments with oceanographers in California, Northwest Africa, Oregon and Peru.In 1983 he gained full professorship and chaired the FSU Department of Meteorology from 1985 to 1994. Instrumental in spearheading the initiative to co-locate the National Weather Service Office on the FSU campus, David thoroughly enjoyed his 38 years of service to the university. Fascinated by building construction, David enjoyed nothing as much as watching new homes under construction or supervising renovation projects at home or at FSU. Always up for a challenge, there was nothing he couldn't fix. He could often be found dabbling in his workshop, preparing for a variety of household projects.An eternal optimist and a fastidious organizer, David was a lover of life. He reaped much pleasure from travel, learning, exploring and spending quality time with his family, friends and colleagues. Other survivors include two sons, James Stuart (and wife Catherine) of Kingsport, Tenn., and Robert A. Stuart of Tallahassee; a daughter, Melissae Stuart of Tallahassee; two brothers, Alan Stuart (and wife Julie) of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and Paul Stuart (and wife Margaret) of Pointe Aux Pin, Mich.; three sisters, Sister Mary Alan Stuart of Lexington, Ky., Ruth Stuart of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Christine Buck (and husband Jack) of Wyomissing, Pa.; and two grandchildren, Lauren and Eric Stuart of Kingsport.He was preceded in death in 1988 by his first wife of more than 23 years, the former Geraldine Frances Petersen.
