Retired Patrolman Charles E. 'Chuck' Williams, of Waltham died peacefully at his home on Thursday, August 26, 2010 surrounded by his devoted wife and loving family. He was 80. Chuck was born on August 5, 1930 in Concord, Mass., a son of the late Albert and Hazel (Cass) Williams. He was a resident of Waltham for 60 years and had graduated from Concord High School in 1950. Chuck retired from the Waltham Police Department in 1972 after 18 years of service. He was the President of the Waltham Patrolman's Union, the President of the City of Waltham Credit Union, the President of The Retired Municipal Employees of Waltham, as well as a member of The Retired State County and Municipal Employees Association of Massachusetts. Chuck was a long standing member of Our Lady of Comforter of the Afflicted Church in Waltham where he was also an usher for decades. Chuck's greatest accomplishment was his spearheading the creation of The Retired Municipal Employees of Waltham, an organization created to ensure that retirees of the City of Waltham were receiving appropriate benefits for themselves and their spouses through legislation. Chuck's hobbies and favorite past times included working in his yard and vegetable gardens, spending time with his grandchildren, and traveling throughout the US. He was also an avid Boston sports fan. Chuck is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Helen A. (Rivers) Williams; his children, Charles Williams Jr. and his wife, Sandi, of Augusta, Georgia, Michael Williams and his wife, Debbie, of Spencer, Julie Potter and her husband, Glenn, of Georgetown, Mark Williams and his wife, Regina, of Franklin, Scott Williams and his wife, Kay, of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, Karen LaCure of Hudson, and Jeffrey Williams of Dracut; two sisters, Marjorie Hamilton of Framingham and Elizabeth Dwyer of Roslindale; twenty-one grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Chuck was also the brother of the late Albert, Philip, Robert, and Frank Williams. Family and friends honored and remembered Chuck's life by gathering for calling hours at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main St. (Rte.20), Waltham on Tuesday, Aug. 31 from 3–7 p.m. and again at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 1, followed by his funeral Mass on Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, where his Funeral Mass was celebrated at 9 a.m. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
