Carolyn Ann Shiple Smith COLUMBIA- Mrs. Carolyn Ann Shiple Smith, 80, of Columbia, died Wednesday, November 5, 2014. Born in Perrysburg, Ohio, on January 29, 1934, she was the youngest daughter of the late Fred and Myrtle Velliquette Shiple. Mrs. Smith was a registered nurse and a graduate of Mercy Nursing School in Toledo, OH. She was the former owner and operator of Kids' Stuff Learning Center where she was Mother and Gammy to many. She was one of the original members of Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church in Columbia, SC, where she remained very active for over 40 years. Mrs. Smith had a lively faith, and she enjoyed serving in the Catholic Cursillo movement as well as Kairos Prison Ministry. Of her other many talents, she was an extraordinary pianist, with a beautiful voice to match. Mrs. Smith is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Alfred Clemens Smith; daughters, Marcia Maddox (David), Susan Sexton (Bill), Michelle Perry (Greg), and Dawn Baggett (William); sons, John Smith (Robbin), and Dr. Frederic Smith (Rakale); grandchildren, Jennifer Beason (David), Mitchell Perry (Mary), Matthew Perry (Krystal), Nicholas Sexton (Laura), Ashleigh Ferguson, Julie Smith, Elizabeth Smith, Paul Womack III, Sarah Smith, Conner Smith, and Joshua Smith; great-grandchildren, Emarie, and Marleigh Lopez, Andrew, Jill and Alex Beason, and Matthew and Michael Perry; brother Thomas Jude Shiple; and sister, Ursula Pauken. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, November 8th, at Noon at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church, 120 Marydale Ln, Columbia. Final Commendation and Farewell Prayers will be said at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery. The Rosary will be said at 5:30, Friday evening, November 7th, with visitation to follow at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church.
