AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Betty Jane Childress Arrington, 75, formally of Grundy, Virginia passed away Saturday, July 29, 2006 at St. Joseph's hospital after a brief illness. Born July 21, 1931 in Newark, New Jersey, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Granville Childress of Leemaster, Virginia and the late Kelsey Tennessee Charles Childress of Zebulon, Kentucky. In addition to her parents, Betty Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Monroe Arrington. She is survived by one son Terry Lynn Arrington; two daughters, Sheri Diane Arrington Owens and husband Cory of Augusta , Georgia and Dawn Leigh Arrington Crouse and husband, Michael of Knoxville, Tennessee; four grandsons, Andrew Cory Owens, John Nicholas Owens, Michael James Crouse II, and Miles Callaghan Crouse; two granddaughters, Courtney Dawn Owens and Elizabeth Kelsey Dyhanne Crouse. One Love of her life was serving in the Girl Scouts of Buchannan County, Virginia from which she received the high honor of the Thanks Badge for all of the work she did mainly behind the scenes. She enjoyed seeing what she could do to help people both within the Girl Scouts and the Church. God blessed her with many gifts including caring for people, preparing memorable meals and working with her hands. Betty Jane had many good friends at the Looney Chapel United Methodist Church in Vansant, Virginia, where she was made to feel a part of the church family. She spent the last fourteen years living and making many friends in Augusta, Georgia and was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
