Mrs. Betty Jean Newbury Johnson, 72, of Florence, passed away Monday, March 3, 2008, at ECM Hospital after an extended illness. She was born in Boyd, Wisc., and had lived most of her life in Lauderdale County. She sang and played the organ at Oakland Methodist Church, where she was a member and worked in the fabric department at Wal-Mart until her illness seven years ago.Visitation will be today, March 5, 2008, from 6-8 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 6, 2008, at 11 a.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel, with burial in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be the Rev. Chuck Worley.Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, James Foley (Foby) Johnson; son, Michael Allen Johnson; and parents, Walter and Emma Newbury.She is survived by her daughters, Judy Mangrum (Donnie) and Jean-Ann Heupel (Shannon); sons, Walter Johnson (Johanna) and Dale Johnson (Angie); sisters, Marie Jones and Alice Bewley; brothers, Glenn and Charles Newbury; 11 grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.Pallbearers will be James Johnson, Justin Johnson, Randy Newbury, Sean Sailors, Jeff Hall and Barry Gooch.Special thanks to Station No. 4, Mitchell-Hollingsworth, first floor West nurses and staff at ECM Hospital and Drs.
