Barbara A. (Weidman) Smith, 79, of Hanson, died at home Aug. 25, 2011, after a long battle with cancer. Her loving family was at her side. She was the wife of Richard G. Smith for 58 years. Barbara was born in Quincy, daughter of the late Arthur and Edna (Parnell) Weidman and was raised and educated in Weymouth. She was a supervisor of telephone operators for New England Tel and Tel in Weymouth for many years and for a brief period for Southern Bell in Melbourne, Fla. She was also a dental assistant and retail sales associate during her working years. Barbara served on the PTA Council for Hanson Public Schools and was on the board of the CCD at St. Joseph the Worker Church in Hanson. An accomplished dancer in her younger years, she particularly enjoyed dancing and making annual trips to the White Mountains in New Hampshire. But her greatest joys were the times spent with her beloved family and close friends. In addition to her husband, Barbara is survived by her loving children and their spouses, Gregory and Cathryn of Hanson, Gary and Deborah of Hanson, Nancy and Daniel Clancy of Hanson and Thomas of Pembroke; five grandchildren, Bryan, Brandon, Megan, Victoria and Matthew; brother, Arthur Weidman and wife Betty of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Joan Childs of Bonita Springs, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 2 Maquan St., at the corner of Rte. 14 and 58, in Hanson, Tuesday, Aug. 30, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, Aug. 31, at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph the Worker Church, 1 Maquan St., Rte. 14, in Hanson.
