Arlene Phyllis Cobb, 80, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sept. 7, 2009, in San Gabriel, Calif. She was born the second daughter to Alvin and Selma Smith and her sister Lucille in Glassport, Pa., on Oct. 9, 1928. She was confirmed at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1942 and graduated from McKeesport High School in 1946. Growing up in Pennsylvania, Arlene loved to roller skate and ice skate. She and her parents moved to Long Beach, Calif., in the 1950s, where they were members of Trinity Lutheran Church. She worked as a secretary at Southland Heating and Air Conditioning in Long Beach in the 1960s. She met her husband-to-be Edward L. Cobb on the church bus on the way to a Billy Graham Crusade. They married in May 1970 and enjoyed a happy union for 25+ years until her beloved Ed passed away in March 1996. They lived on Goldfield Avenue in Long Beach through 1988, when they moved to St. Augustine, Fla., in January 1989. They were members of the First Church of the Nazarene in St. Augustine and active in the Council on Aging (COA) senior activities. After 17 years living in St. Augustine, Arlene moved to San Gabriel, Calif., to live with her stepdaughter, Trisha. She loved cats, cooking, baking, playing Skip-Bo, playing the piano and singing hymns. She is survived by her stepchildren, Dottie Jansma-Williams, Trisha Jansma, Ken Speck and Steve Speck; her grandsons, Matthew Williams and Trenton Speck; brother-in-law, Sam Cobb; and nephews, Dave Cobb and Mike Cobb. Services will be held on Friday, Sept. 11, 2009 at 2:15 p.m. at the Memorial Chapel at Forest Lawn Long Beach, 1500 East San Antonio Drive, Long Beach, CA 90807.Forest Lawn Mortuary, Long Beach is in charge of arrangements.
